A NEW DISCOVERY IN WEIGHT-LOSING SHOWS

Weight-losing shows are not new against the audience. Examples include THE BIGGEST LOSER franchise. But this competition, titled “the Yang Jizhou Cup Acupuncture-Moxibustion Weight-Losing Competition” sets a new example towards its peers, as it’s the first weight-losing competition using Chinese acupuncture and moxibustion as its key methodology.

The competition was held by China Association for Acupuncture and Moxibustion (CAAM) and the People’s Government of Qujiang District, Quzhou. Production Company Keystone Culture co-held and produced the competition. The competition earned technical support from the CAAM, as well as administrational support from the local government and other organizations.

Hundreds of people applied for the competition since the call went out in July. A final group of 100 contestants were chosen based on telephone interviews and body evaluations i.e. age, weight, BMI.

The ceremony was brought to a height when all 100 contestants went on stage and made a heartening vow to open a new life.

AN INTERCULTURAL, INTERDISCILINARY METHODOLOGY

The production team of the famous weight-losing reality show CHANGING MY LIFE involved in the competition. What makes this new competition different is that it uses Chinese acupuncture and moxibustion as its key methodology. The methodology combines body exercise, a weight-losing cuisine using fresh local ingredients and a mind therapy course. Leading acupuncturists and nutritionists offer support in the methodology. The methodology is aimed not only to let contestants lost weight, but to fully improve their life, and bring their life quality to a higher level.

A NEW LIFE FOR A TRADITIONAL HERITAGE

The competition is a key element in Qujiang District’s campaign in promoting its reputation as “Home of the acupuncture master, Holy land of acupuncture”.

“This competition has been in development for a long time, now that it is open, we will introduce Qujiang to the whole world with a brand new form using this brand new media,”says Wu Jiangping, vice-president of the Political Consultative Conference of Quzhou, secretary of commission of Qujiang District of Quzhou.

Since the film HOME OF THE ACUPUNCTURE MASTER, Qujiang has been working hard on introducing its rich resources, both natural and cultural, to the entire world through telling the stories of Yang Jizhou and Chinese acupuncture and moxibustion. Their effort earned appreciation from experts around the world.

“Qujiang knows its position well, and grabs the opportunity that Chinese medicine is developing fast, using its cultural resource as ‘Home of the Acupuncture Master’,” says Liu Baoyan, head of the WFAS and vice-president of the CAAM.

The competition gives out a signal that traditional Chinese cultural heritages such as acupuncture and moxibustion will be introduced in a much friendlier and appealing way. Keystone Culture Group has been working hard on promoting acupuncture and moxibustion as world heritage. As director Zhang Juncheng states, the world-wide promotion of “beautiful acupuncture” requires a creative mind, and a new way of media communication, so that more people can learn about acupuncture and moxibustion and see its new life with the help of the internet era.
