Cosmetic Laser Dermatology Releases Infographic Post on Sclerotherapy
The San Diego-based clinic has created an infographic post to explain the causes, myths and treatments regarding varicose veins and spider veins.

Cosmetic Laser Dermatology is pleased to announce our clinic has produced and released a comprehensive infographic post on the topic of varicose and spider veins. It is estimated that as many as six out of every ten adults over the age of sixty will experience the symptoms of varicose veins. The condition appears more frequently in women than in men.

More information on the infographic can be found here

According to the infographic, healthy veins return blood to the heart through one-way valves that keep blood flowing through the vessel in a single direction. Diseased veins have weakened valves, allowing blood to flow backward and pool inside the veins. The result is a high-pressure build-up inside the veins, leading to a venous disease known as chronic venous insufficiency or CVI. The symptoms of CVI include aching, swelling, itching, heaviness, restless legs and visible veins.

Some of the causes include heredity, age, trauma, prolonged sitting or standing, constricting clothing, high heels, oral estrogen or birth control, pregnancy, and constipation.

Treatments close and eliminate the culprit veins, allowing blood to divert through healthy veins with normal functioning valves to improve circulation. Different procedures can be applied alone or in combination to treat the problem veins. Treatments are performed in our office and take from fifteen to thirty minutes.

Possible treatments include sclerotherapy, endovenous thermal ablation, and ambulatory phlebectomy. Sclerotherapy requires no pain medication. With or without ultrasound guidance, a sclerosing solution is injected into the problem veins, causing them to seal closed. Treated veins fade from view over time, but multiple treatment sessions may be required to achieve an optimal outcome.

Endovenous thermal ablation requires local anesthesia and relaxing medication. Laser or radio frequency generates heat to close the diseased veins permanently. There is minimal or no scarring and the success rate is as high as 95%. Ambulatory phlebectomy requires local anesthesia to treat bulging veins. The diseased veins are removed through tiny incisions, leaving minimal or no scarring.
